Author, CopShock, (2nd Edition) Surviving Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Allen R. Kates, BCECR, MFAW, is a trauma expert, journalist and author of the internationally acclaimed trauma survival/recovery book, "CopShock, Surviving Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)." Based on more than 6 years of research and now in its second edition, the book helps police officers, war fighters, fire fighters, medical personnel, first responders, and their families cope with the aftermath of traumatic incidents.

Allen is Board Certified in Emergency Crisis Response (BCECR) by the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress (AAETS), and has earned certificates in critical incident stress debriefing and management, suicide intervention, PTSD therapy, resiliency, crisis intervention and victimology.
He was trained in crisis intervention by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) and the Pima County Attorney's Victim Witness program, and helped victims of crime cope with tragedies such as robberies, beatings, rapes and murders.
Three weeks after 9/11, he toured the devastation of the World Trade Center and gave an 8-hour seminar to Cop2Cop and Port Authority peer support officers.
Allen has given seminars about PTSD, suicide, post-shooting trauma, vicarious traumatization, psychological and emotional survival, and resiliency techniques to organizations such as the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Janes' Police Conferences, Creative Health Care, the Sacramento Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, the Spokane, WA, Police Department, the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Center, the National Guard Bureau, the Arizona Department of Veterans Affairs, the Arizona Department of Corrections, the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists, and the New England State Police Information Network.
He has appeared on many television and radio programs and is quoted in numerous newspaper stories. The A&E Television Network produced a documentary based on Copshock that is shown in police academies.
Allen is a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress (AAETS), the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) and the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA). He is Board Certified in Emergency Crisis Response (BCECR), has a Master's degree in writing (MFAW), and was a television journalist for fourteen years.
